LOVE IS KIND AND LOVE IS PATIENT

Love is kind and love is patient,
Does not envy, does not boast,
There’s no room in love for pride,
No desire for fame or praise.
Love does not dishonour others,
Doesn’t focus just on ‘me’.
Love is slow, so slow to anger,
Lists of wrongs love does not keep.
Love does not delight in evil
But rejoices with the truth,
And love always, no exceptions,
Trusts, protects, hopes, perseveres.
Three things that will last forever,
Faith and Hope and Love are they,
Of these three, love is the greatest,
For love’s God’s priority.
God is kind and God is patient,
Seen in Christ’s humility,
Christ who honoured every person,
Died that freed from sin we’d be.
Love, Christ’s truth and love Christ’s way,
Love His life then, now, always.
Love that guards and even trusts us,
His love ours through endless days.
So may we be kind and patient,
Envy leave outside our door,
No more pride and no more boasting,
As we honour others more,
No to selfishness and anger,
No score card of others’ wrongs,
Finding joy in truth not evil,
May Christ’s love be our love song.

IN FLANDERS FIELDS THE POPPIES GROW

In Flanders fields the poppies grow*
Midst symbols of the cross,
Reminding us of lives laid down
And of love’s greatest cost.
For those who ne’er returned from war
For those forever scarred
For families torn, communities marred
We ask your peace, O Lord.
As we with gratitude look through
The windows of wars past,
May here and now, eyes fixed on you,
We work for peace that lasts.
Yet, we know peace, when left to us
Unravels, falters, fails,
May we your love and wisdom trust
To be our better selves.
No greater love there is Christ said
Than life laid down for friends,
Dear Lord, who gave your life for us,
Walk with us til life’s end.
